About the Painting: “The Flying Ace”
Flight view paintings come in many forms and this one has a slight cartoon appeal to it. The clouds and sky were achieved with a watercolour sponging technique. The Sopwith Camel plane was first drawn in ink then over layered with water colour washes. Crayon was used for the detail and tonal highlights. Professionally produced prints and greeting cards are available of “The Flying Ace”.
Flight Views Paintings
Capturing flight views in paintings has to be really done in the studio with the composition being taken from sketches and apt photographs. “The Flying Ace” flight view painting was created in this way. Other aviation paintings will be added to this page at a later date. I have a couple of flight views of New York plus one of an oil rig in the North Sea. In addition I have some flight views of the English countryside including one at night. I hope to be able to put these aviation paintings up soon.
