My hand drawn colour cartoons or humorous illustrations are really a form of fantasy art or fantasy drawings. Each theme is purposely surreal and is often quite bizarre.

Balloon Warfare” incorporates fantasy hot air balloons over the English countryside. “Drunks in Paradise” illustrates drunken people living in their own alcoholic fuelled fantasy world whereas “Corporate Toilet City” depicts the internal political nonsense that thrives in large businesses.

Cromwell’s Clones” was commissioned by a well known international Mobile Telecommunications provider as a leaving present, in the form of a personalised gift, for one of their departing senior executives.

Cartooning, Humorous Illustrating methods used

For these type of cartooning  I prefer to use traditional cartooning methods employing pen and ink on either paper or card and then hand colouring each one with crayon, watercolor or coloured inks. Sometimes, I might use a combination of mixed media such as watercolour and crayon to colour the humorous illustration.

At current time I am only doing hand rendered colour cartoons, humorous illustrations. Once completed, I can easily digitise them for display on a PC or a digital photo frame, for example.

Cartoons, Humorous Illustrations may be used in a variety of ways

My coloured cartoons, humorous illustrations as well as my black and white cartoons have been used for web cartoons on Web Sites in addition to Leaving Cards, Greeting Cards, Birthday Cards, Story Boards, Cartoon Strips, Publications, Presentations, Leaflets, Training Material and as Advertisements. Some people have bought them as Personalised Gifts to simply put in a frame (under glass) and to then, hang on a wall.

Cartoon, Humorous Illustration Commissions

A cartoon commission is something special and which is unique, personal and often highly regarded by others.

If you enjoy my cartoons (either black and white cartoons or my colour cartoons) then I would be pleased to undertake a cartooned commission for you. Each cartooned commission usually involves considerable research to understand the character and personality traits of the person, animal or event being represented. The mixed media employed is generally a combination of pen & ink with crayon and/or watercolour washes.

About the Cartoon: “Balloon Warfare”

I was inspired to illustrate this colourful aviation cartoon after a flight in a hot air balloon over the English countryside. At the time the air was congested with balloons and they needed thinning out hence my idea of each balloonist to shoot the others’ balloons. The popped balloons show their occupants parachuting to safety. This fantasy artwork was drawn with pen and ink and the colouring used was artist’s crayon. The same techniques were used for “Drunks in Paradise”.

About the Cartoon: “Drunks in Paradise”

I once lived in a not-so-nice part of London and everyday I had to walk past many unfortunate people, to get to the tube station. These “unfortunates” would seemingly look for solutions in bottles by drinking their contents. My pen and ink and crayon picture conveys a paradise for such people to do ‘as they please’ and without offending anyone but perhaps, themselves. Unlike “Corporate Toilet City”, this humorous illustration made use of full rich colour.

About the Cartoon: “Corporate Toilet City”

This farcical illustration was drawn to reflect the internal political nonsense that seemingly exists within many corporate companies. Most of  the corporate buildings resemble lavatories to depict  contempt for such impersonal work places. Included within the picture are tree lined boulevards, traffic, people and helicopters. A mix of media was employed but basically it is a pen and ink and colour crayon creation. Colour cartoon commissions generally involve a certain individual or group of individuals as in “Cromwell’s Clones”.

About the Cartoon: “Cromwell’s Clones”

Cromwell’s Clones was given to a senior executive, as his leaving present, from a UK national company. It is a tongue-in-cheek character assassination depicting the character of the recipient. Often he would portray himself as being another “Cromwell” and as he had over 200 loyal staff below him, these were dubbed as his clones. This humorous illustration was created with pen and ink and watercolour on substantially strong paper to prevent buckling. Similar art techniques were used for “The Flying Ace”.
