Abstract Landscape Paintings
Abstract landscape paintings on this page will be different hopefully to many contemporary
abstract paintings that you will have viewed before. As an abstract landscape painter,
I use natural foliage as my abstract theme and then I manipulate the shapes and colours
to create a new type of abstract art. The abstract landscape “Inverted Lights” painting
was devised by studying a photographic negative of the scene and using some of the
negative colours to create it. “Totem Woods” is the same composition, albeit from
a different angle, to the water painting “Stream at Llanina”. “Magpie” and “Cwmmynach
Boundary Brook” are abstract landscape themes from the same land area. If you would
like to see or even compare my traditional and contemporary landscapes with my abstract
versions below then the Welsh landscape paintings or the water scenes of Ceredigion
are a good place to start.
“Totem Woods”
Acrylic on Canvas
508 mm x 610 mm
(20.00 x 24.00 inches)
Price: GBP 575.00
About the Painting: “Totem Woods”
Here’s a different kind of contemporary abstract painting that has a psychic art
twist to it. I’m also an accomplished Spiritual Psychic Medium and I experiment with
psychic painting. I’m convinced that a Red Indian guide influence came through on
the tree trunks as they do resemble markings you might find on a Totem Pole. Also
the style of painting isn’t exactly “me” although I did paint it. The same can be
said too for my Magpie painting. A traditional view from the same area of Totem Woods
is shown under “Llanina Bridge”.
“Cwmmynach Boundary Brook”
Acrylic on Panel
180 mm x 250 mm
(7.13 x 9.76 inches)
Price: GBP 185.00
About the Painting: “Cwmmynach Boundary Brook”
The idea behind this contemporary abstract painting was to show just enough colour
to represent the scene of a brook running along the boundaries of a farmer's field.
Most of the composition is purposely dark to accentuate the light streaming through
gaps in the trees and bushes. This composition is located very close to my waterfall
painting “Capeli Ditch”.
“Inverted Lights”
Acrylic on Canvas
508 mm x 610 mm
(20.00 x 24.00 inches)
FRAMED
Price: GBP 695.00
About the Painting: “Inverted Lights”
This abstract landscape painting has many interesting features. First of all, the
white light is light and not snow! The composition shows a river, two side banks,
a top bank where the river turns to the right and beyond the bleached tree. The colours
were chosen mainly to simulate a negative of a photographic print hence the title
“Inverted Lights”. Faces appeared in the painting too that I did not consciously
put there. See if you can see the large white face of a Nethanderal man? Whereas
this painting has intricate layers of colour, the next painting, Totem Woods, has
bold colour.
“Magpie”
Acrylic on Canvas
508 mm x 407 mm
(20 x 16 inches)
Price: GBP 450.00
About the Painting: “Magpie”
I have titled this abstract landscape painting as “Magpie” because a Magpie bird
flew into my studio and sat on a shelf admiring this picture a few moments after
it had been finally completed! The painting was an experiment at trying to produce
a “magic eye” picture in paint and to some extent it does work. There are many hidden
people and animals within the composition. Another semi abstract painting where many
dark tones have been added is the water painting “Ford at Dole”. Cwmmynach Boundary
Brook takes the use of black paint a step further by making it the principal colour.
