“Tenby Harbour”
Acrylic on Panel
180 mm x 250 mm
(7.13 x 9.76 inches)
Price: GBP 195.00
About the Painting: “Tenby Harbour“
Tenby is a coastal town in South Pembrokeshire (South West Wales). It is steeped
in history too with medieval and Venetian influences. Most of the old town is still
wrapped behind castle walls from the 11th Century. In this boats painting you can
see many colourful boats bobbing up and down on the incoming tide. On the beach there
are children and adults playing. To see a birds eye view of Tenby’s harbour you should
view another Tenby painting within the townscape paintings of Wales page. At one
time the boats at Tenby would have looked more like those in my Galleons at War painting
for Tenby was a fortified town.
“Applecross”
Acrylic on Canvas
508 mm x 203 mm
(20 x 8 inches)
About the Painting: “Applecross”
“Applecross” is a Western Scottish Highland coastal village quite close to the Isle
of Skye. This boats painting shows a selection of working boats in the foreground
plus yachts in the mid distance. The water has been skilfully painted to show reflections,
the effect of wind breezes skimming the water and the swell of the floating seaweed.
My mountain painting entitled, “The Bovvie” was painted in a fairly near vicinity
to this one of Applecross. In comparison to my New Quay Harbour painting, this painting
of Applecross took many more hours to produce.
“Galleons at War”
Acrylic on Paper
202 mm x 102 mm
(7.95 x 4 inches)
Price: Not for Sale.
About the Painting: “Galleons of War”
This was a fast sketch used for a much larger painting of ships. I’ve included it
here as many of you tell me you enjoy looking at it! As this sketch does have a cartoon
appeal to it you might enjoy looking at the “Flying Ace” as well as my colour cartoons.
Similar colours were used to paint my Applecross painting below.

Paintings of Boats
Paintings of boats are quite diversified on this page. “Tenby Harbour” is a colourful
boat painting whereas “Applecross” shows working boats as well as pleasure craft
sitting on a calm Scottish sea inlet on the Western mainland but quite close to the
Isle of Skye. “Galleons at War” is a fictitious sketch used for a much larger painting
of ships. Seascape paintings of Wales and the original sunsets paintings plus the
water paintings of Ceredigion will all show you more views of water but without boats!
Another boats scene has just moved from the New Art page to this page and is called
“New Quay Harbour”; it is the New Quay in Ceredigion (Cardiganshire), Wales and not
the one in Cornwall, England. It was sold immediately after I had just finished painting
it!

About the Painting: “New Quay Harbour”
New Quay Harbour is near Aberaeron in Ceredigion (Cardiganshire), Wales. No sooner
had I just finished this painting, than it was sold to a private London collector.
I painted the scene shown during October 2009. No under drawing was made and no sketches
were done either. I painted it straight off and with very few adjustments in order
to keep it fresh and spontaneous. Another harbour painting is shown above and is
called “Tenby Harbour” and where the colours include different mixes of blue pigment.
