About the Painting: “Cwm Mynach Winter Snow”
“Cwm Mynach” is Welsh, meaning “Valley of the Monk” and it is the name of the farm
shown in this snow farm painting. The perspective shows you the back of the farm
from one of the rear paddocks which is generally used for sheep grazing. The blue
shadows on the right foreground are cast by a small copse. Be sure to see the other
farming paintings of Wales on this page and especially the one called “Above Cwm
Mynach”.
“Above Cwm Mynach”
Oil Pastel on Card
253 mm x 187 mm
(9.96 x 7.36 inches)
Price: GBP 135.00
About the Painting: “Above Cwm Mynach”
This is another, albeit distant, view of the farming painting entitled “Cwm Mynach
Winter Snow” and shown at the top of this page. It shows a closer view of the farm
buildings and which in this picture (to the right) are clearly seen in the middle
distance. This painting had to be achieved very quickly primarily because the freezing
cold Winter’s day was playing havoc with my fingers and my oil pastels! The distant
hills follow the same latitude as the original landscape paintings of “Cellan” and
“Llanwnnen”.
“Capeli Farm Tractor”
Acrylic on Canvas
250 mm x 180 mm
(9.76 x 7.13 inches)
Price: GBP 95.00
About the Painting: “Capeli Farm Tractor”
This farming paintings scene shows a farmer seed drilling a field in the foothills
of the Cambrian mountains in mid-West Wales. You can see that the Capeli Farm tractor
is creating a dust cloud behind itself and that the flying seagulls are hoping to
find something edible. Succinct views of the Cambrian’s are shown on the original
landscape paintings category. Other mountain paintings are not limited to Wales.
“Capeli Farm”
Acrylic on Canvas
610 mm x 508 mm
(24 X 20 inches)
About the Painting: “Capeli Farm”
This painting of a farm in Wales was commissioned by the owner of this farm. One
of the original woodlands paintings is on Capeli’s farm land plus two others from
the contemporary abstract paintings series. In this Capeli Farm painting, you can
see the farm house, grain store and cow sheds. The field in the foreground is growing
Barley for Winter cattle feed. Capeli farm is famous for holding the annual British
Sheep Shearing contest every mid July.
“Caerfoel”
Pen, Ink + Crayon on Card
280 mm x 188 mm
(11.02 x 7.40 inches)
Price: Not for Sale.
About the Painting: “Caerfoel”
This hill farming painting shows another neighbouring farm during an early April.
It is located on the hill behind Cwmmynach farm and it is just out of view (on the
right) in the “Above Cwmmynach” painting. The viewpoint is from a small green field.
I decided to use pen and ink with crayon to pick out all the building shapes so that
you, the viewer, are able to see them clearly. Caerfoel grows potatoes as its main
produce and also grazes sheep.
Farming paintings of Wales
Farming paintings of Wales are localised to a beautiful countryside area between
Cribyn and Lampeter with the exception of the farming painting titled “Cors Caron
Cows”; this is some 15 miles North at a wildlife reserve known as Cors Caron and
close to Tregaron town. Other Cors Caron views retained on this online paintings
gallery are titled as “Tregaron Bog” and “Cows Drinking”. The farming paintings of
“Cwm Mynach Winter Snow” and “Above Cwmmynach” are different perspectives of the
same farm. “Capeli Farm” is the principal neighbouring farm near the Welsh village
of Cribyn while “Caerfoel” physically overlooks both farms from a hilltop position.
Another of my farming paintings of Wales involves Welsh Cockerels on patrol!

About the Painting: “Welsh Cockerels on Patrol”
This is an acrylic painting using water colour techniques. These particular Cockerels
belong to a farm above Llandewi Brefi on the mountain road to Ffarmers. Although
I made some sketches on site, the bulk of this painting was achieved by studying
a selection of photographs. It’s interesting to note that the composition of the
cockerels seem to follow the Diamond pattern of the gate. I noticed that after I
had finished the painting. Maybe it means something? But I don’t know what! Two barn
owl paintings are shown on the illusion paintings Wales page.
