Original Woodlands Paintings
The original woodlands paintings shown below are a mix of scenes from both England
and Wales. I enjoy painting woodlands as either a complete vista such as in the “Bluebell
Fairy” or by focusing on a specific element as in the original woodlands painting
of “Two Trees at Llanina”. Close to Marlborough in Wiltshire, England you’ll find
Savernake Forest and which is a delightful forest to visit. My original woodlands
painting entitled, “Savernake Twilight” is just one of a few that I have painted
of Savernake forest. I was inspired to do “Autumn Red” after visiting an arboretum
in Gloucestershire. The woodland painting entitled ”Capeli Trees” is close to my
home near Lampeter, Ceredigion. If you enjoy looking at woodlands paintings in particular
then be sure to take a look at my water paintings of Ceredigion and my waterfall
paintings of Wales. I’ve been experimenting with woodland scenes too by manipulating
their colours and changing their compositions into abstract landscape paintings.
If you like my painting style(s) then why not consider commissioning me to paint
an original woodlands painting for you?

About the Painting: “Savernake Twilight”
The ancient forest of Savernake is located near Marlborough in Wiltshire, England.
Although the forest is privately owned it is open with free admission to the general
public. Savernake forest itself is spread over thousands of acres and has a plethora
of different foliage and vegetation. This attracts an abundance of wild life. In
order to appreciate the natural drama of these woodlands, the best times to visit
are either at Dawn or Dusk. Another of my paintings showing deep shadows is entitled
“Cwmmynach Boundary Brook”.
About the Painting: “Capeli Trees”
This sparse original woodlands painting is a scene less than half of one mile away
from my home. Different types of watercolour pigments were used to create this original
woodlands painting. Traditional watercolour washes were used in the main and then
the detail was picked out by using watercolour crayons as semi dry media. The spontaneous
look was achieved by completing the artwork in one sitting. Tiny red petaled wild
flowers were captured in the foreground. “Capeli” is the name of my neighbour’s farm.
Views of this farm and the farms surrounding it are shown under farming paintings
of Wales.
About the Painting: “Two Trees at Llanina”
This detailed woodland painting shows bluebells on the woodland floor with the afternoon
sunlight bleaching their gentle blue hues. While sitting in this tranquil spot, it
is hard to believe that the Irish Sea is less than 150 metres away! There are other
paintings of Llanina on this site such as the “Stream at Llanina” and “Llanina Bridge”.
If you particularly like bluebells then take a look at the “Bluebell Fairy” above
or the “Bluebell Walk at Llanilar”. In direct contrast to this painting is “Autumn
Red”.
About the Painting: “Autumn Red”
Painting woodland scenes is quite difficult to achieve while painting with dominate
reds but this particular original woodlands painting seems to have the correct balance
with its cool greens and the slightly warmer and partially hidden orange foliage.
Another use of red within an original woodlands painting can be seen in one of my
abstract landscape paintings entitled, “Totem Woods”. A most striking and vibrant
use of red can be seen in my Scottish Fortress painting of “Eilean Donan”. Reds have
also been mixed within Savernake Twilight.
About the Painting: “Bluebell Fairy”
If you look into the mid centre distance of this watercolour (water color) painting,
you may see the dancing fairy that appeared without conscious effort from me. Prints
and greeting cards of this bluebell picture are available in a choice of sizes and
finishes. There are other bluebell paintings on this site such as those on the wild
flowers paintings page and the painting entitled, “Stream at Llanina”. Also captured
from Llanina is the close-up Bluebell painting called “Two Trees at Llanina” below.
